Oct 19, 2013 · I confess. I have admired Spyro Gyra since that very first song on the very first album through every single one of the albums since. I own them all. They have brought joy where there was none. They have grown, they have changed and they have changed me. "The Rhinebeck Sessions" by Spyro Gyra can be purchased here. It was the first jazz I got into. Actually it was Spyro Gyra and Rippingtons. Loved Rippingtons earlier music but Russ Freeman has definitely gone smooth the past several cd's. I grew bored with it and transitioned over to contemporary jazz which I enjoy much more. I love the playing and there is so much more depth to the music and arrangements.
The humbucker is pretty good, sharp and powerful, a good lead sound and it's a nice option, - it's good for lead playing through an effects pedal, where the overall tone from the guitar itself doesn't matter all that much, and it gives you the beefier mid- and low-frequencies you can't really get from a single-coil. No, but it really doesn’t matter, Plastic Beach has enough great songs to carry the somewhat lacking ones. It doesn’t hit you hard with rock like the last albums did, but really it didn’t have to. This is perfect lounging music and in these stressful times, maybe we need an album to just chill out to. “
Dec 30, 2009 · For those who don't remember the original version from Spyro Gyra, here's a chance to listen - no flashy video - just great music... With Spyro Gyra he earned six Grammy Award nominations. He composed and performed the songs Loving You (from Catching the Sun) and Cafe Amore (from Carnaval). It's not a matter of getting it! Maybe this music fails to reach new listeners because it's too behind the scene. A lot of people have such an elitist attitude about the music they like. Spyro Gyra, along with the Rippingtons and Kenny G, helped to usher in the era of "smooth jazz". I wouldn't call Spyro Gyra's music JAZZ.
